20/06/07 NASC AGM Please note the starting time has been brought forward to 7.30pm, in order to make time for a bring and buy auction (see homepage). Committee Nominations have been received, and the position of VICE CHAIRMAN is vacant. Any member wishing to stand as Vice Chairman can contact the committee for more information, and can stand for this position subject to nomination and seconding by members. The deadline for agenda items is now past, but general matters may still be raised on the night under 'any other business'. 20/06/07 NEW DATE FOR CRICKET VS FELTHORPE Our original match against Felthorpe for the John Ellis Shield was rained off, and a new date has been set of Saturday September 8th (no AFC fixture that day). Please could all players (and others interested) please contact Kate again to confirm you can play. 20/06/07 NEIL DREW DEFENDS NASC MINI LEAGUE TITLE Congats to Neil Drew, whose team 'Crewe Elaineandria' has won the NASC mini fantasy league for the second season running. Neil's team fought off a strong challenge from Chris Upton's 'Fishfinger Kings' who finished a clear second well ahead of Scarfey's 'The Human Menagerie' in third place. Prizes of £50, £30 and £10 go to the top three. Carlo's Wonders were not so wonderful, finishing at the foot of the table, and we didn't win any of The Sun's big prizes - so we'll see you all in the cheap seats again next season! Thanks to everyone who entered - we'll do it again next season. ![]() 20/06/07 BOULDY'S PREDICTION COMPETITION RESULTS Brian Bouldy Sadler's Prediction competition is a perrenial favourite with NASC members, and has been won this year by 'ANDY'S SNACK BAR' (£50 prize). Runner up was David Ball (£30), third was Will Howlett (£10) and fourth was Simon Greaves (£5). The full results are viewable by clicking here. Andy's Snack Bar have already offered to donate their winnings to Brian's Trust Fund, which is very generous. Some big names failed to trouble the leaders this year (I will not name them - see for yourself!) and the wooden spoon goes to Carl Renworth - a tad unlucky that as he actually top scored in two of the sections! Thanks to all who took part, and for Brian for organising it - we look forward to the 2007/8 competition. 12/06/07 NEW AWAY STRIP DISCOUNT Just a reminder to all members that NASC membership entitles you to 20% off all goods in the Arsenal club shops - and that includes the new away kit! Arsenal simply require NASC to place the order, so get in touch and place your order through us for your discount. 02/06/07 HAIRLINE HAIRCUTS FOR BRIAN SADLER As you know, NASC member Brian 'Bouldy' Sadler is currently in hospital and is facing a difficult year fighting off his illnesses. A trust fund is being set up to help Brian financially, and NASC will be supporting this. Jacqui Browne has started the ball rolling by making a very generous offer to all NASC members. If you have your haircut with Jacqui, she will donate the usual charge to Brian's trust fund. That's the complete charge for men's haircuts, the complete charge for ladies cuts, and half the cost of colours etc. PLEASE SUPPORT JACQUI by booking into her salon for your next haircut. As well as getting a top class haircut in a new salon with good company, your money will help Brian. Contact Jacqui directly at her Salon on Bell Road, Norwich (Open Monday to Saturday) on 488494. IF ANY OTHER MEMBER WISHES TO SUGGEST INITIATIVES TO RAISE MONEY OR WISHES TO MAKE A DONATION, PLEASE EMAIL ANY NASC COMMITTEE MEMBER. 25/05/07 NASC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Sunday July 1st 2007, 8pm White Horse PH Trowse. COMMITTEE POSITIONS The current NASC committee stands down at the AGM, to be replaced by a new elected committee to serve for the 2007/8 season. Members wishing to stand for election to the new committee must be nominated and seconded by club members, and nominations are invited now. Nominations must be received by June 8th 2007 latest. Members wanting to know more about committee positions can contact the Chairman or Secretary for details. RULES, MEMBERSHIP FEES AND TRAVEL DETAILS The AGM is traditionally the time when rule changes are proposed, membership and travel fees are set and general club procedures are discussed. The outgoing committee and all members are entitled to make proposals on these subjects for debate and vote. Formal rule changes and proposals should appear on the agenda issued prior to the AGM. Please note the closing date for agenda items is June 8th 2007. So if you want an item to be put on the agenda please contact the Club Secretary (Julie) before the 8th. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AT THE AGM. 15/05/07 AGM and COMMITTEE POSITIONS 2007/2008 Just a reminder to all members that our Annual General Meeting will be held on July 1st 2007, and a new committee will be elected at the AGM to serve for next season. All members are entitled to make proposals and suggest rule changes for consideration at the AGM, but these must be submitted to the secretary by early June so they can be included on the AGM agenda. All members are also entitled to stand for committee positions subject to successful nomination and seconding. Again, you need to think about that now if you wish to stand as the closing date for nominations will be early June. 15/05/07 ARSENAL SUPPORTERS CLUB TOURNAMENT MAY 14 2007 NASC BOW OUT IN GROUP STAGES The Arsenal Supporters Clubs End of Season Football Tournament was held at the Emirates Stadium on Monday, and NASC was represented by Dave Watson, Mark Scarfe, Jordan Wale, Stuart Laws, Peter Knight, Robert Knight and Paul Ellis. The tournamanet was held on the Emirates pitch, and after last season's wash out at Highbury it was good to get in six full games. 27 teams took part, including supporters clubs from as far away as France, Hungary, Malta and America. Anders was his usual tricky self until retiring with a dodgy hamstring. The Knight brothers bagged four goals between them with their deceptive pace and power (they really didn't look that quick from the stands!). Paul played in a most un-Arsenal like style, daring to shoot even when more than 4 yards from the goal. Dave 'the Cat' Watson had a fine tournament in goal (according to the opposition strikers), Scarfey played sweeper (that is, he moved at a pace similar to that of a man with a broom) and Jordan was below his usual high standards as his Henry football boots were stuck in the boot of his mothers car 100 miles away! NASC's first group game was a 1-1 draw with Arsenal Scotland, our goal coming from a fine left footed strike from Anders after a quick free kick. We were unfortunate to lose 3-0 in our next game against America (who went on to the final), not helped by the fact that they were wearing shoulder pads and helmets and kept picking the ball up and running with it. Peter Knight gave us the lead in our next match against West Sussex, but again we failed to hold onto our lead and drew 1-1. Game 4 against Drogheda resulted in a 5-0 drubbing, sorry no match report available! Pride was restored with a 2-1 victory over West Midlands with goals from Paul (low left foot strike) & Peter (neat top corner finish after fine build up play). Any chance of progression to the knock out stages disappeared with a 2-3 reverse (Rob & Peter) to Milton Keynes in our final game, the stone cows across the edge of the opponents area making strikes on goal difficult for us. So, no silverware but great fun had by all and good to play on the 'will-be-hallowed-one-day' turf at the new stadium. After the tournament we were taken through the players tunnel and into the away team dressing room to avail ourselves of the smart new showering facilities, then up to club level to view the semis and final. Many thanks to Dave for organising a team and transport at such short notice and for driving, Jordan for supplying kit and a dad to act as manager, and Anders for the drinks. Pics and a video are on the web site gallery. The Supporters Club tournament is a regular end of season event (although this year's was only confirmed a few days before the event). If you'd like to play for NASC in future years please get involved in the friendlies and 5-a-side nights we occasionally organise throughout the season. 15/05/07 BOULDY SADLER Just a note to let you know that Brian 'Bouldy' Sadler is currently recovering from a major operation and will be out of action for a while recouperating. NASC sends our love and best wishes to Bouldy for a complete and speedy recovery. NASC friends and associates wanting to send their well wishes can contact Scarfey or John Browne for more. 27/04/07 NASC MINI LEAGUE UPDATE Just a handful of games left in this season's NASC mini league, and it looks like a two horse race for the title between leader Chris Upton and defending champ Neil Drew for the top spot. Stu, me and Jet are scrapping for third, while Carlo's Wonders look anything but wonderful and doomed to finish in bottom place. Remember that cup games count as well, so this season's mini league won't be decided until after the FA Cup and Champions League Final. Overall, our mini league sits in 12,135th in the mini league table - not very impressive! It's well down on last year, although I don't know just how bad it is as there is no way of telling how many mini leagues there are this year. Our best month was September when we made the top 3,000! ![]() 15/04/07 APRIL NASC MEMBERS MEETING It was a quiet meeting, with Arsenal's recent from to blame. Quiet that is until the Easter Egg raffle, when all hell broke lose. An inquest will no doubt be held. The yellow tickets weren't in the bag, and Mr Watson drew his own winning ticket. A bigger fix than the champions league draw, or and honest fumble? The jury is out! Apart from the usual reports and possibly Mick's worst ever joke of the month (yes, I know that's saying something but this one really was worse than usual) we had the difficult business of player of the month. After about 10 hours of soul searching and with the dawn chorus almost upon us, and after general agreement that the groundsman or physio should probably win it, eventually a vote took place and Diaby won it. Due to Arsenal's ever more bizzare fixture list we will not be having a members meeting in May. A suggestion was made that we gather mid may for an informal end of season wake, err party, instead. So, if it ever gets organised you'll here about it on this web site. 17/03/07 MARCH NASC MEMBERS MEETING The March members meeting was held on Sunday March 4th and was poorly attended. Apologies for absence were received from Julie, Tracey and Kate, and the remaining committee members gave their monthly reports. Dave reminded members that we are entitled to 20% discount on all orders exceeding £100 at the Arsenal shop. Dave can accept orders and place a bulk order when the value reaches £100. It was noted that many supporters were having problems with peeling 'fly emirates' wording on their replica shirts, and that Arsenal were offering a new for old replacement of defective shirts. So if yours is not as it should be take it to the Arsenal shop for a replacement. Dave also expressed concern about the high number of cheques being bounced this season - would all members please ensure they have adequate funds in their accounts when paying for tickets and travel please. Trevor reported that several members still had not collected their Arsenal membership packs from him. Time is running out - if you haven't got your pack contact Trevor know, if not it will end up on ebay! On the social side paintball and stadium tours are still pending although a date of 24/3/07 was suggested for paintball. We also have our annual cricket challenge with Felthorpe coming up on May 27th - players needed now please. Mark brought in the a genuine clock end seat from Highbury - raffle tickets are on sale now for this prize, to be drawn at the end of the season. Paul reported on the latest Arsenal Supporters Club Forum which he attended on behalf of NASC. David Dein attended the meeting. The main points were; no plans to improve rail and road links to and from Emirates; all national flags banned within Emirates Stadium; Ticket prices a concern amongst fans, and fans feeling distanced from the club (a concern not apparantly shared by Arsenal); rumours of 20% increase in season ticket prices next season. 17/03/07 FEBRUARY NASC MEMBERS MEETING The February members meeting was held on Feb 4th and was well attended. Apologies for absence were received from Julie and Kate, and the remaining committee members gave their monthly reports. Tracey issued a half yearly statement of account which was acecpted by members, and advised members that we had set up a new account with Barclays due to raised bank charges being levied by LloydsTSB. Dave confirmed ticket and travel arrangements following Marc and Sarah's resignations (as detailed on this site) and advised that midweek departures were reverted to 4pm from Norwich. On the social side, paintball and a stadium tour are to be arranged subject to interest. 21/02/07 CARLING CUP FINAL TICKETS AND TRAVEL NEWS See Travel Page 08/02/07 CHANGE TO TRAVEL TIMES Please note that the departure times for midweek fixtures at the Emirates has now reverted to 4pm (John Lewis, Norwich) until further notice. Other en route pick ups go back 30 minutes accordingly. 08/02/07 NASC FANTASYFOOTBALL LEAGUE With the final transfer window now closed, the NASC Fantasy Football Managers must trust their current line ups for the remainder of the season. There have been 8 different leaders of the NASC mini league this season, with Chris Upton's Fishfinger Kings currently heading the pack with a healthy 71 point lead. Stuart Laws has crept menacingly into second place though, and if he doesn't get a nose bleed a late charge for the title could be on the cards. After an indifferent start defending champion Neil Drew has cruised into third place with Crewe Elaineandria and doesn't look to be giving up his title without a fight. Special mention must go to Marc Ladi's Norfolknchance, who have reached the dizzy heights of three from the bottom. Marc and Sarah are no strangers to propping up the table, so it is good to see the Ladi's entry hitting some modest form. ![]() 02/02/07 NASC TREAT FOR LOCAL GOONER Some of you may have read about local gooner Andrew Betts, who's battle against illness was featured in the loca press recently. The shirt is framed, with almost 20 signatures and a certificate of authenticity from Keith Edelmann. It will be auctioned at the December meeting, with all proceeds going to a local man injured in a hit and run incident - details of which were given to members recently by David Pentin. The appeal is being organised by the Prince of Denmark, and our thanks go to David and to Roy (NASC member and landlord of the Coachmakers) for making this possible. David brought the matter to our attention and Roy kindly donated a signed Norwich Shirt to the Prince of Denmark (for them to auction) in exchange for the Arsenal shirt. 11/11/06 NASC/ARSENAL DISCOUNT REMINDER A reminder that NASC members are entitled to 20% discount on all Arsenal products from the official club shops. To claim your discount please email Dave Watson, Club Chairman, with the item description (name, catalogue page number, item number, colout size, print details etc) or post the details to him at the club PO Box address. Orders must be over £100 in value, so multiple orders from members will be taken until the combined total is over £100. We have just had a change of Secretary and Julie is currently transferring our membership records onto her system. There are a few problems with this and a lot of correspondence to deal with, so please bear with us while we get it sorted - thanks. 02/10/06 NASC COURTESY TICKET Members may have read recently in the Evening News of a local gooner who is fighting against a serious illness. We are delighted to confirm that we are arranging complimentary ticket and travel for him to the Arsenal v Watford fixture. Many thanks to Bouldy for bringing this to our attention. 02/10/06 WEB SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE Please see the details to the left. 02/10/06 LOGO COMPETITION Please see the link on the front page for details. 02/10/06 OCTOBER MEMBERS MEETING Over 100 members attended the October meeting to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of NASC. As well as the usual meeting business, presentations were made to Tricia French and John Browne for their many years committee service to NASC. Tricia received garden vouchers and John was given a West Stand Executive Seat from Highbury. We will also be delivering a thank you gift to Julie & Adrian for their service as Secretary and Assistant Secretary shortly. Unfortunately they were unable to attend the meeting. After the meeting a buffet was held followed by entertainment provided by Mr Keith Woolley. All members welcome and encouraged to attend. We will be inviting local gooner who is suffering from a brain tumour to be NASC's guest at a forthcoming PL match, expenses paid. In an effort to boost interest in way matches, this season's Aston Villa away trip will be designated as a special NASC Away Day. We will see what we can do to get extra tickets for this fixture and promote it within NASC. New departure times have been set for travel to the Emirates to take account of police instructions. It was agreed to attract web page sponsorship. It was agreed to hold a competition to redesign the NASC logo (details here soon). It was agreed to cease the current committee payment arrangements and propose an alternative for approval at the next members meeting. It was agreed to propose to members that we support Bob Wilson's Willow Foundation charity this year. 05/09/06 NEW NASC SECRETARY ELECTED Welcome aboard JULIE JEPHSON, who was elected unopposed at the September members meeting as the new NASC Secretary. Julie becomes the third Secretary in the history of NASC, taking over from Julie Cocks. The Committee also welcomes ALAN WILSON to the position of NASC Auditor - thanks Alan. We still need a nomination for the post of ASSISTANT SECRETARY (non-committee). Members interested in this position please contact Dave Watson, Club Chairman. 05/09/06 NASC 15TH ANNIVERSARY Next month sees the 15th Anniversary of the formation of NASC, so we intend to celebrate it with a slightly different members meeting in October. Watch this space for details. We would all be delighted to see a high turnout at the October meeting, so for regulars and newcomers alike we hope you will join the celebration. 05/09/06 EARLY DEPARTURE FOR MIDWEEK GAMES? The police/Arsenal are insisting that we arrive 2 hours before kick off for all matches, including midweek matches. We can't do this leaving at 4pm from Norwich, but we are reluctant to leave early due to people's work commitments. The matter was discussed at the Sept members meeting and the overwhelming majority of members indicated they would not object to leaving earlier for midweek games if required to. We may start leaving early, we may also look at alternative parking arrangements. Marc & Sarah will make the call on this one. If you want to make you views known please email Sarah. 05/09/06 NASC PLAYER OF THE MONTH : THEO WALCOTT ![]() Theo was voted Player of the month for August at the Sept members meeting. Also nominated were Gilberto, Djourou and Ljunberg. 17/08/06 COMMITTEE VACANCIES - LATEST We have received one nomination for the post of SECRETARY (committee position), and one nomination for the post of AUDITOR (non-committee position). ADDITIONAL NOMINATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND 2006. All nominations received by this date will be put before members for election by vote at the members meeting on Sunday September 3rd 2006. Any members interested in these positions need to contact Dave Watson, Club Chairman, without delay please. We still need a nomination for the post of ASSISTANT SECRETARY (non-committee). Members interested in this position please contact Dave Watson, Club Chairman. We have decided not to seek to fill the vacant position of MERCHANDISE OFFICER for the time being. With so many new faces on the committee this year (and a new Secretary about to join us) we are in the process of reviewing the committee structure & procedures. For the time being this committee position will be suspended, and it will be reviewed later this year. 15/08/06 NASC COMMITTEE VACANCY: SECRETARY After many years service on the committee Julie Cocks has decided it is time for a change and has informed the committee that she is standing down with immediate effect. Adrian Cocks will also stand down as Assistant Secretary. The positions of NASC Secretary and Assistant Secretary are therefore now vacant. The Secretary position is a committee position, the Assistant Secretary is a non-committee position. Nominations are now invited for both positions. If you are interested in standing or you would like to know a little more about what the posts involve please contact any committee member for advice. We would like to have the new people in place as soon as possible. Julie and Adrian have loyally served NASC for many years taking care of publishing and mailing the News Sheets, membership renewals, membership records and general NASC correspondence and administration with members and Arsenal. Their work is often unsung but always important and on behalf of all NASC members the committee offers a massive thank you to them both for their contribution, together with our very best wishes for a happy and healthy future on the NASC 'back benches'. 08/08/06 WELCOME TRACEY CLARK - NEW NASC TREASURER We are pleased to announce that Tracey Clark has been accepted onto the NASC Committee as the club's new Treasurer. Thank you to all members, especially Tracey, Gary and David, for taking an interest in filling this position which is so important for the running of NASC. Tracey will be taking over from Tricia as soon as practical, and the NASC committee would like to thank Tricia once again for her time and commitment to the position. 08/08/06 WAITING LIST SCRAPPED The committee has decided to phase out the waiting list over the next few months. Anyone on the waiting list should be able to join us soon. 08/08/06 MERCHANDISE OFFICER POSITION VACANT Stuart Laws has decided to stand down as Merchandise Officer. On behalf of all NASC members and the committee we would like to express our warm appreciation of all that Stuart has done for NASC, and we hope to welcome him back to the committee in the future. This position is now vacant so any members who are interested in taking over are encouraged to contact a committee member. The committee are also reviewing the nature of this post over the coming weeks. 08/08/06 SOCIALS COMING SOON A Night at the Ketts, the NASC Golf Day (early Sept), Paint Ball, 5-a-side Football, NASC 15th Anniversary Party, Highbury Raffle Special . . . details to be announced shortly. 09/07/06 EMIRATES PICTURES Yet more pics of Emirates on the Liverpool pictorial site. The club has a lot to thank John and Tricia for and I am sure that members will want the new committee to find an appropriate and lasting way of expressing members' appreciation of the many years work they have put into NASC. Dave Watson returns to the committee as our new Chairman - our first new Chairman since the formation of NASC in 1991 - and Kate Shaw steps onto the committee for the first time as Social Secretary. Welcome aboard Dave and Kate. It leaves the important position of TREASURER unfilled, and we must fill this position urgently as it is essential to the smooth operation of NASC. The outgoing committee will make written recommendations concerning these for debate and approval at the meeting. If you have any questions about the AGM please contact any committee member. 22/05/06 NEIL CHAMPION OF NASC FANTASY LEAGUE The first Sun NASC Fantasy league has finished, with Neil Drew emerging as champion. Neil took the lead a few months ago and the hot end of season form of Thierry Henry ensured runner up Mark Scarfe could not catch him. Neil pockets £30, Mark £15. Our mini league finished in 4,635th position overall - not bad out of 16,459 entries. I hope more people will sign up next season - see the web site in August for details. Thanks to all who took part this year. |
