NASC ANNUAL CRICKET CHALLENGE : PLAYERS NEEDED NOW
Sunday May 25th
Once again it is time to visit our very dear friends at the lovely Felthorpe CC, and give them a thrashing, after which we might play some cricket. Our aim this year is to retain the John Ellis shield we won last year, no, hang on, that's wrong . . . Our aim this year is to retain the John Ellis shield that Peter Knight won for us last year.
It would be a wonderful achievement to retain the trophy, as indeed it would be for Dave & Mark just to make a single run between them or for us to field a team of 11 NASC members. SO COME ON NASC MEMBERS - PUT YOUR NAME FORWARD FOR THE CRICKET TEAM. It doesn't matter what standard of player you are, remember PK is on our side. (See bottom of this page for last year's event pics).
Email Kate now please.

NASC FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - LATEST STANDINGS
Here's the state of play at March 18th. As you can see, Chris Upton is looking odds on to win, providing he can fight off the challenge from, err, Chris Upton! A top two double finish for the first time in the competition's history? Could be!
Meanwhile, ex 'voice of the vice' Trevor Wilcox is trying to match the feat - but at the other end of the table! If Carlo's TS Gooners get a shift on it could be double trouble for the vice.

BOULDY'S PREDICTION COMPETITION - LATEST STANDINGS
I've taken over the reigns from Bouldy for the 2007/2008 Prediction Competition. It is our intention to continue the competition in Bouldy's name and honour for seasons to come, meanwhile the standings at 26th Feb 2008 are shown below.
David 'Gooner' Granger has been leading from quite some time, and still heads the pack. He's looking odds-on for the win thanks to his FA Cup picks of Manure and Chelski both being in the last eight and looking set fair for the final.
Tom Leese, Matthew Wolfe, Stuart Murch, Ian Voutt and yours truly should all hang their heads in shame for picking up 10 points thanks to Spuds winning the Carling Cup, although not as much as Brian Butlin and Simon Greaves - they collected 15 points for Spuds winning and Chelski also making the final!
I will update the scoring again once more before the end of the season, probably mid April.
Scarfey.

NASC QUIZ NIGHT 2007
Simon Withey reports . . .
Sunday 7th October saw the long awaited return of the NASC quiz night.
Eight teams battled it out for the coveted title of NASC Quiz Champions 2007. There were eight rounds of eight questions per round. Kate Shaw providing four rounds of cruel General Knowledge questions with the other four rounds from Simon Withey that were all about our glorious team (thats Arsenal not the NASC football squad).
The tables below show that Us Two (Julie and Carlo) were top of the general knowledge league, proving that they should get out more. The (Ellis) Brothers were the most knowledgeable on all things Arsenal and topped the Gooners league by six points. So they were unlucky to lose by just one point to Us Two when the scores were added together.
Total Scores
Us Two 61
The Brothers 60
No F In Luck 58
Dave's Noisy Crew 53
D&J 51
The Mad Chefs 49
The Oaklanders 30
Kings Lynn Gunners 30
General Knowledge Round
Us Two 33
Dave's Noisy Crew 29
No F In Luck 27
The Brothers 23
D & J 22
The Mad Chefs 21
The Oaklanders 19
Arsenal Round
The Brothers 37
No F in Luck 31
D & J 29
Us Two 28
The Mad Chefs 28
Dave's Noisy Crew 24
Kings Lynn Gunners 16
So we found out that Carlo and Julie have an unhealthy knowledge of Big Brother and Harry Potter, Dave Pentin knows a lot about semi naked Arsenal legends, Kate Shaw makes Anne Robinson look like Julie Andrews and Simon Withey realised that not all NASC members are as old as him!!!
And spare a thought for our two teams of new members (The Kings Lynn Gunners and The Oaklanders) who left very quickly and quietly at the end
.
Thanks very much to all those who took part.
Looking forward to the next one already.

NASC WIN THE JOHN ELLIS SHIELD
The NASC cricket team have won the John Ellis Shield for the first time, defeating Felthorpe CC by 4 wickets. The Shield was presented by NASC to Felthorpe CC last year in memory of the late Felthorpe CC Treasurer, and Felthorpe CC won the first challenge match.
The match report can best be summed up in two words: Peter Knight. After a solid performance in the field, Peter carried his bat through the NASC innings making a superb century, his 107 not out being the highest score to my knowledge in the history of our annual cricket challenges.
NASC took to the field first against an experienced Felthorpe side who had finished third in their league this season, missing out on promotion by just one place. Despite NASC gathering two early wickets, Felthorpe made fast progess early on reaching 122 for 4 from their first twenty overs. Accurate bowling, committed fielding and a couple of smart catches from Dave 'the cat' Watson behind the stumps brought a remarkable turnaround, as NASC dismissed their opponents for a reachable total of 144.
With 40 overs available to secure a winning total a solid start was required, but unfortunately our Chairman Dave W acting as reluctant opener was dismissed first ball. It was a demon of a ball but we all missed it as we hadn't finished taken our seats for the NASC innings. It was left to me to restore the committee's honour, and I hope my innings of two balls and zero runs went someway to achieving that!
NASC cruised past the Felthorpe total with around 15 overs to spare, reaching 147 for 6, 107 of those runs coming from the hot willow in the hands of Peter Knight. An outstanding individual performance from Peter on the back of a fine team effort in the field.
Peter & Dave must also take credit for helping us out by finding three last minute players to ensure we had a team. The lack of NASC members in the NASC team was the only disappointing note to an otherwise enjoyable day. Indeed it is always an enjoyable event, played at a pleasant ground with friendly hosts in a good spirit, and I sincerely hope members will make a greater effort to support the event in future years.
Our thanks to Felthorpe CC for welcoming us again this year and for providing facilities, refreshments and a sporting challenge.
